G-Cloud-Approved Leisure Software: Buying Just Got Simpler
On 24 July, the Government Commercial Agency — the body that used to trade as Crown Commercial Service, and still does most of the same job — named OpsPal among the successful suppliers on G-Cloud 15, ahead of the framework’s official award on 6 August. First attempt. There are no follow-up questions, no gaps to fix, and no second submission.
Most leisure operators assume buying anything through the council means a three-month tender process, a stack of paperwork, and a procurement officer who’s never set foot in a pool plant room. That’s true for most software. It’s not true for us anymore. OpsPal is now G-Cloud-Approved leisure software, and once G-Cloud 15 goes live to buyers in mid-August, any council, university, or leisure trust can buy us directly from the Digital Marketplace. No tender document required.
What G-Cloud 15 Actually Checks
Here’s the bit worth understanding, because it’s not just a procurement shortcut — it’s a filter.
G-Cloud 15 replaces both G-Cloud 14 and Cloud Compute 2, and it’s being run under the new Procurement Act 2023. Computer Weekly reported suppliers pushing back on how much tougher this round is compared with previous ones — heavier evidence requirements around financial standing, technical capability, and cyber security than G-Cloud 14 ever asked for. Every supplier now needs Cyber Essentials in place, with no exceptions and no grandfathering on old certificates.
None of that got waved through because we filled a form in nicely. It got checked because our governance, our GDPR compliance, and our data protection commitments matched what we actually do — not what we said we’d do in a pitch deck. That’s the whole point of the framework: it’s meant to stop buyers having to take a supplier’s word for it.
